Revolutionary War Pension of Jeduthan Waite

26 Mch. 1818 William Waite of Waitsfield, Washington Co., Vermont deposed that he was acquainted with Jeduthan and in fact had served in all the same Companies and Regiments with the exception of the last term of service.
26 Mch. 1818 Jeduthan signed a Power of Attorney granting George Rich of Montpelier authority over his pension and granting decision making ability for same.
11 May 1818 Jeduthan - Certificate of Pension issued. Transcribed on the Roll of Vermont at the rate of 80 Dollars per month, to commence on the 15th of Apr. 1818.
12 Feb. 1819 Letter authorizing Jeduthan's land warrant to be delivered to Samuel E. Crafts, a member of Congress. 25 Feb. 1819 Jeduthan - Land Warrant issued (signed Horace C. Crafts).
Sept. 1821 Jeduthan provided a schedule of his net worth (the value of his property was $32.62) and gave the following statement. "I am by occupation a farmer and can labor some - my wife Naomi is fifty three years of age and is feeble - my daughter Anna of the age of 30 years, never walked or spoke and is unable to do anything for her support and is wholly dependent on me - my son Levi of the age of 14 is able to support himself and nothing more - my son Morgan of the age of 12 years, is feeble and not able to support himself - I have no other means of support except from my country."
7 Jan. 1822 Letter sent by Samuel C. Crafts along with Jeduthan's declaration for the purpose of continuing him on the Pension Roll. It was Crafts' understanding that he had not been stricken under the Act of May 1820 for having possessed too much property. "…and from his declaration, the truth of which I have no reason to doubt, it would seem that he is poor enough to entitle him to a pension."
22 Jul. 1839 Joel Rice of Granville Vermont deposed that Jeduthan married Naomi Sterling of Granville soon after he arrived in town about 50 years prior. He further deposed that he did not attend the wedding but that Daniel King Esq. Would have performed the ceremony as he was the only magistrate in town and there was no minister there. Jeduthan and Naomi moved to Waitsfield shortly after their marriage. He was acquainted with Jeduthan until his death about 10 years prior.
31 Aug. 1839 Naomi, a resident of Warren, aged 67, deposed to apply for a widow's pension under the Act of 7 Jul. 1838. She declared that she was married to Jeduthan 10 Jan. 1790 at Kingston now Granville in Addison Co. Vermont by Daniel King Esq., JP. That Jeduthan died 8 Apr. 1829.
3 Sept. 1839 William Waite of Warren in Washington Co. Aged 42 deposed that he was the s/o Jeduthan and Naomi formerly of Waitsfield and that his mother had never remarried.
4 Sept. 1839 William M. Pingry of Waitsfield, Town Clerk, provided an extract of the family of Jeduthan & Naomi Wait from the town records. Viz. Anna born 10 Jul. 1791; Eunice born 6 Jun. 1793 died 5 Sept. 1799; Eli born 6 Feb. 1795; William born 3 Apr. 1797; Nathaniel born 16 Sept. 1799; Nathan born 28 Jul. 1801; Susanna born 11 Aug. 1803; Levi born 12 Aug. 1805. He further stated that he examined the records on 11 Feb. 1840 of Granville, Vermont from the organization of the town to the present date and could find no record of the marriage of Jeduthan and Naomi. This appears to have been the date that Naomi's certificate of Pension under the Act of 7 Jul. 1838 was issued.
9 Aug. 1843 Naomi, age 72, a resident of Warren Washington Co., Vermont appeared before the J.P. to make her Declaration in order to obtain benefits under the Act of 3 Mch. 1843.
5 Dec. 1843 Certificate of Pension issued to Naomi Wait under the Act of 3 Mch. 1843.
5 Jun. 1848 Naomi was added to the Pension Roll at the rate of $96.00 per year. Page 384 Vol. 3. There is a note referencing Madison Wisconsin but no date as to the transfer. Other notes on the page seem to reference the transfer from Wisconsin to Ohio occurred in Jul. and Aug. of 1853.
1 Jul. 1848 It appears that payment of Naomi's pension under the Act of 2 Feb. 1848 was to be paid at Montpelier.
4 Jul. 1848 Naomi, age 76, appeared before the J.P. in Washington Co. For the purpose of obtaining the benefits of the Pension Act of Congress of 2 Feb. 1848. She stated that she had been pensioned under the Acts of 7 Jul. 1838; 3 Mch. 1843 and 17 Jun. 1844 at the rate of $80.00 per year paid by the Pension Agency at Montpelier.
16 Sept. 1848 Naomi's Declaration for the benefit of the provision of the Act of Congress 2 Feb. 1848 was sent for issuance of her Certificate.
24 Oct. 1848 Letter stating that the Declaration of Naomi was sent back on 18 Sept. 1848 and requesting that her Certificate be issued.
19 Dec. 1848 Naomi's Certificate of Pension issued and recorded on Roll of Pensioners under the Act February 2, 1848, Page 103 Vol. 3. 7 Apr. 1852 Naomi appeared before the J.P. at Dane Co. Wisconsin and presented her Widow's Pension Certificate granted 19 Dec. 1848. She was requesting a transfer of her pension to the Pension Roll of Wisconsin and stated that she was still the widow of Jeduthan and resided in the state of Wisconsin for four months and furthermore that she had resided at Warren Vermont prior to her move to Wisconsin.
15 Apr. 1852 Letter from Madison, Wisconsin along with Naomi's affidavit that she had removed from Vermont to Wisconsin and requesting that she be paid there. Additionally, she was requesting that she receive $96.00 per year as other widows in Vermont were receiving rather than $80.00 per year.
6 May 1852 Letter from Pension Agency Office at Montpelier verified that Naomi had received her pension to the 4th of March 1851 under the Act of 2 Feb. 1848.
31 May 1852 Letter from Madison WI along with Naomi's Certificate was mailed in order to have her annual rate increased to $96.00 per year and to have a new Certificate issued.
21 Jun. 1853 Letter from LaPorte Loraine County, Ohio confirms that Naomi was inscribed at the rate of $96.00 per year under the Act of 2 Feb. 1848. "Her said pension was transferred from the Roll of Montpelier Vermont to that of Milwaukee Wisconsin May 13th 1852 to take effect from and after the 4th March 1851. Her pension has been paid up to the 4th of March 1853. She has since removed to live with her son in |Corlish|2 Loraine County Ohio where she expects to spend the remainder of her days and is desirous that her pension be transferred for payment to the office for Paying Pensions in this County."
4 Jul. 1853 Naomi J.P. at Loraine Co. Ohio and requested that her pension be transferred to the Ohio Pension Roll. She had removed to Ohio to spend her remaining days with her son Levi.
4 Aug. 1853 Letter from Pension Agency Office at Milwaukee verified that Naomi had received her pension to the 4th of March 1853 under the Act of 2 Feb. 1848.
5 May 1905 Bertha E. Savage of Waitsfield, Vermont requested a copy of the pension record.
