I am a Wait descendant who hasn't done much research yet on the family but would like to. I am having trouble finding the stated genealogy of 3 generations from the immigrants listed. I come from Thomas of Portsmouth and Benjamin of Hatfield. Please advise the URL at which I should begin. What a great resource this website is going to be! Thank you so much!
Leslie
St. Louis, MO
I was just at the cemetery in Whatley MA earlier this month and visited some of the Wait graves, although I couldn't find the specific one I was seeking, that being Consider.

I am still in England (Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire) with my Wait(e) family. I found your site and think it's just wonderful. Right now, I'm still stuck in the very early 1800's in England with William Waite & Mary Anne Jenkins. I decend from their son John, b. abt. 1810. It is slow going because as you reference all the "junk" gedcoms out there, I'm attempting to document every entry along the way. I will certainly keep this site in mind; I do not know how many, if any, of John's brothers & sisters or children came to the US.

Thanks for providing a terrific resource that I will bookmark for future reference!

I am doing some research for a Waite descendant and need information on the 1st wife of Yelverton Wait (1743-1816, Rev War Major, Rhode Island). She was Margaret Whitford. Apparently they were divorced. Yelverton is buried with his 2nd wife Zipporah Colvin but Margaret has disappeared. I suspect a 2nd marriage and name change for her.

Directly descending from Thomas Waite, Nathaniel Hawthornes friend and the proprietor of the Province House in Boston of the aforementione auther, I have two portraits painted in 1820 by the famous painter,, William P Codman. I am looking to have them displayed elsewhere, and am looking for information on ,,,, 1- is there another likeness of Thomas I could see,,, and 2- what was the name of his daughter in the other portrait. I can email the images to anyone who would like to see them. They were given by Frances Houghten Rogers who married Frank Upton of Nelson NH>

Lots of Waites (or Waits) lived in Dixfield, Maine from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s. The Dixfield Historical Society has lots of mentions of Harvey Wait, William Wait, Lucy Wait, Margaret Wait, etc., none of the mentions currently catalogued though. But, if any WaitBlog user wants information on any specific Dixfield Wait, please contact me and I will do research there for free. I am the DHS historian.

Hi to you all, especially Janet Harris (Waite), I am a Wait(e), but still living in England. I see that you cover British Wait(e)s too and I thought that you might be interested in some FREE to view sites on this side of the Atlantic. I actually transcribe written/scanned images for 2 of them (volunteers are welcome). These sites are www.freebmd.org.uk General Records Office Births Marriages and Deaths from the 3rd Qtr of 1837 onwards, currently up to the early 1900s. www.freereg.org.uk, Church registers and Bishop's transcriptions various counties are in progress, lots of volunteers needed! and www.freecen.org.uk. 1881 is already free (LDS site) and the UK Government 1901 census, single search name free, household view on prepayment. There are 2 other sites which are even more interesting and more detailed, www.bathbmd.org.uk, the local record office for Bath and NE Somerset from 3rd qtr 1837, progressing very quickly, and www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk, also progressing. These last two give the option of an online ordering facility for copies of official birth, marriage and death certificates! these www.[county]bmd.org.uk are being expanded to other counties, see www.ukbmd.org.uk for details. I did a quick search for a Lily marrying a Waite from 1900 to 1918 and got 3 hits, no Lily Mae though. Lily Farnham, Taylor or Hodge and finally Erasmus. They married Ernest Bertram, Philip C and Sydney J respectively. I hope that this information helps all of your Family History researchers. My own family (Great Grandfather William Wait) I've traced back to Farmborough Somerset c 1820. Happy browsing of these site to you all.
