Send Me Everything You Have…

I would have thought that the "send me everything you have…" syndrome would have gone the way of snail mail inquiries. It's amazing the number of people who still write to me and say "my great-great-great grandfather's name was John Waite and he lived in Massachusetts…please tell me everything you know about him!" I'm not kidding! Friends…I can't tell you everything I know about your John Waite unless you tell me who your John Waite was. If you don't know anything other than his name…tell me about his wife…tell me about his children…tell me where his descendants migrated to… I need something to go on! AND…John Waite born 1820s or 30s won't get it either! As of tonight I have 57 John Waites born between 1820 and 1830 in my database. Please be very specific about what you need and I will happily send you the information I have and often will research your ancestor to add both to my knowledge and yours.

Hello, I am James Michael Waite b1954 in Waynesboro VA. My parents were John Herbert Waite, Jr b. 1909 in Baltimore MD and Helen Virginia Smith b. 1919 in afton VA. My grandfather was John Herbert Waite who had a furniture factory in Baltimore and moved to Waynesboro, VA after a cardiac illness that forced him to sell the business. He and my grandmother-Gertrude McCabe ran a bed and breakfast called the Virginia Inn until his death on around 1925.
My great-grandfather was Samuel Richard Waite. I am told that he had a shipbuilding yard in Baltimore harbour. My great-grandmother was Josephine Turnbull. Other than my grandfather, I understand that they had a number of children–but I am not sure how many. I have also been told that I am a descendant of Thomas Waite of R.I. Since my dad was 45 when I was born there was a bit of information gap in my family. this is about all that I know.
